Tis the season......

.... to be sewing! I have been very busy sewing lots of nice things to give at Christmas. Unfortunately I can't post pictures yet in case anyone sees them at it spoils the surprise!

I can post these ones though. First is a toy pouch for my nephew to carry his dolls around in (modelled by my youngest in the picture). Just a simple fleece one. His big sister already has a toy ring sling but I have a request for a toy buckle carrier for her as well - we will see if I get time to make one!



Secondly is an apron and oven mitt set for my mother-in-law. I can safely post about this as they don't own a computer so won't see the pictures. It is the same butterick pattern I used for mine eariler in the year. I really like making now I have figured it out! It looks a bit odd on my dress form but I think that is all the extra padding I added has slipped down a bit recently!

ETA:- The fabric for the apron is called Rose In A Round from the 'Doll Dresses' collection by Holly Holderman of Lakehouse.


I also made a matching oven glove. It a bit on the petite side but that shouldn't be a problem as she has little hands like me. (please excuse the pen marks on the picture I haven't washed them off yet!)


I can't wait until I can post about the rest of the things!

Birthday presents for my nephew

My nephew turns 1 tomorrow and as I love making things for little ones I thought I would sew a few things for him. First a little rucksack, he has recently started at nursery so needs a bag to keep all his things in.

This is the second time I have made a rucksack like this. It is not perfect but was easier to make than last time. I'm going to make another one soon so I am hoping it will be easier next time.

And then I filled it with these things:

Toy Carriers

I first discovered babywearing when my second son was 8 months old, I wish I had know about it sooner, it would have made life with a newborn and a toddler a lot easier. It so liberating being able to carry him comfortably and be able to ditch the pushchair. I could go into shops easily, I didn't have to wait for lifts I could just go up stairs and escalators with him. It was so nice to be able to interact with him, be able to point things out he wouldn't have seen from down in a pushchair.

Most of what I learned about babywearing came from going to slingmeets. I met lots of lovely people there who have now become friends, one of whom now lives abroad. They have been over here for the summer but they are due to return soon so I made these as a gift for my friends little girl. (I made her a toy Mei Tai and Ring Sling last year)
